Creature Feature XVI: Mockingbirds and Coots

In my latest Creature Feature piece, I discuss recognition–of individuals and objects, by mockingbirds and coots respectively. It’s based on the following two papers:

Levey et al. (2009). Urban mockingbirds quickly learn to identify individual humans. PNAS 106: 8959-8962. 

Lyon (2003). Egg recognition and counting reduce costs of avian conspecific brood parasitism. Nature 422: 495-499. (downloadable from the Lyon Lab webpage, here) .
